Let’s unite to continue improving quality care! 

The Massachusetts Senate has released legislation as part of the next phase of healthcare reform in the Commonwealth. An Act Furthering Health Empowerment and Affordability by Leveraging Transformative Health Care (HEALTH Act) is a comprehensive bill that is a crucial step forward in our collective efforts to protect access to quality care and decrease costs for consumers.

However, the Senate bill doesn’t go far enough to address our 1199SEIU priorities - immediate funding for our community and safety-net hospitals, workforce engagement and long-term services and supports. We must join together once again to build our power and ensure our voices are at the center of this important healthcare debate.

Contact your State Senator to advocate for our 1199SEIU amendments to the Senate’s healthcare bill:

• Immediate and fair funding to support our community and safety net hospitals and strengthen the Community Hospital Reinvestment Trust Fund with increased participation from pharmaceutical companies and large doctors’ groups.
• Innovative labor-management initiatives to fully engage healthcare workers like me in reform efforts and help prepare us for the industry’s jobs of the future.
• Policies to reform and stabilize our long term care system, such as the legislation we filed earlier this year to ensure that as our nursing homes change ownership and operators, they are accountable to their employees, patients and communities.
